In 2002, my husband and I adopted an amazing little girl in Wuhan, China. It was a moment that transformed my life forever. I was both ecstatic to have this precious child initiate me into motherhood and also overwhelmed by the challenges of helping her adjust to her new life.
I had assumed that with my training as a psychologist, hours of reading, and good “instincts,” I could easily handle any challenge that awaited me. Things were not at all as easy as I thought they would be, but my daughter has taught me so much and forced me to grow in ways I never imagined. We are currently in the process of adopting a little sister...
I hope to share what I have discovered along the way and help those of you who have also chosen to build your family through adoption.
